Family Place Finds New Digs

I got this letter from the folks at Family Place. This is a place very near and dear to me and I am thrilled to pass on this info. Kudos to those who were able to make this happen for Family Place and for all families in our community. Family Place continues to offer their main daily drop in location at 93 Sixth Street as well.

My son playing with a volunteer in 2009.

After almost 10 years of providing a family resource program at Royal City Centre Mall we lost access to the Community Room and have been looking for a new site since August. The community response has been heartwarming with many agencies, businesses and individuals contacting us, writing letters to the editor and suggesting possible locations. Thank you also to those who authored letters to the Royal City Centre Mall owners and management in support of Family Place.
We are happy to announce that we have secured two new locations for family drop-in programs. Thanks to Janet Grant’s suggestion and the co-operation of the School District and the Westminster Children’s After School Society, we will be offering a program on Thursday mornings 9:15 – 11:15 at F.W. Howay Elementary School.
The second site is at 12th Street and 8th Avenue, in Chuck Puchmayr’s former MLA office. We will have a family drop-in program there on Friday mornings and the Immigrant Grandparent’s Program will be held there on Friday afternoons. We have Chuck and the Steel Worker’s Union to thank for access to this space. Grand openings will be announced for some time in January.

I know Marjorie and Fran and the good work they do. It is with great relief that this community program has found a new home. What an asset it will be to the F.W. Howay school!
