Chasing Spring, by Carole Arnston

The Van Dop Gallery is kicking off a series of open houses to celebrate the season. The first one is this weekend, November 27th and 28th and features new works by Carole Arnston.

“All art is but imitation of nature” (Author Seneca the Younger).

Winter is near and Carole Arnston, the West Vancouver oil painter, is revealing new works that use a seasonal palate at the Van Dop Gallery’s Spirit of the Season Grand Opening Nov 27 & 28 from 11am-5pm.

Best-known for her large- scale floral abstractions and landscape vistas, Arnston’s series: “The Winter Garden” is inspired by nature. Arnston states: “the weather here on the coast this fall has been fabulous for the flora. Low angle sunlight brings out the contrasts of branches, leaves and tonal variations in the darkening blossoms. Lots of dynamics in the brushwork brings the wind, and the heat of a late autumn sun to the canvas.”

Arnston has a multi-faceted background in design. An architect by trade, Arnston has built on the abstract impressionist influences of Bonnard, Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell and Georgia O’Keefe to develop her own style of lyrical abstraction.  From her studio perched amongst tall cedar trees with ocean vista, she is immersed in the verdant growth of rainforest and exposed to the subtleties of changing skies and rhythms of soft westerly winds and rains.

As the Van Dop Gallery represents Canada’s best contemporary fine artists, there are many treasures to choose from – beautiful Robert Held glass hearts, stunning jewelry by Joanna Lovett, Carole Arnston’s large- scale floral abstractions, inspirational paperweights by Judy Vilmain, and unique Valentine-inspired gifts for you and your loved ones.
