Local foodie and vegan advocate Melissa Balfour takes veganism seriously. She’s also good at showing off vegan delights, as well as taking some of the mythology away from veganism. She had me impressed at a recent wine and cheese party when she whipped up two amazing “non cheese” cheese dishes – one from Brazil nuts and garlic (SO GOOD) and a spinach dip thing that was awesome. She’s started the New Veganminster Project to show off what New West offers to vegans, and to promote vegan foodie tourism to our city, and to encourage local businesses to consider menu additions that support slightly less mainstream diets. She’s running a bike tour on September 17th to show off some of the stops and invites to you come along. Tickets are limited to ten spots , so register early. From her website:

  • Please note that this event is for people ages 19 and over.  Helmets will be mandatory!
  • Tour goes from 12:30 to 4:30 and starts at The Coming Home Cafe at 753 6th Street New Westminster.
  • Participation is limited to 10 cyclist do not be disappointed and register early!  Payment is due on the day of the event.
